BLACK FOREST CAKE - WHEN, WHERE AND BY WHOM WAS IT FIRST MADE

BLACK FOREST OF GERMANY

GERMANY is the 'Land Of Invention". It has given the modern world Printing Press, Cars, Aspirin, MP3 technology and many more. But the most wonderful dessert it gave the world is the delicious BLACK FOREST CAKE - also called Schwarzwalderkirschtorte in German.

WHAT IS IT MADE UP OF?
BLACK FOREST CAKE

It is a sponge cake layered with cherries, whipped cream ( specially flavored with Kirschwasser cherry schnapps) and chocolate in every layer. It is then iced with whipped cream, followed by chocolate shavings and then finally decorated with cherries.

TRADITIONAL APPAREL OF BLACK FOREST

HOW DID IT GET ITS NAME?

There are many stories told about this but many feel it got its name from the apparel worn by the women of the Black Forest. The wardrobe was black (resembles the chocolate), the blouse was white (resembles the whipped cream), and a  hat with red pom-poms(resembling the cherries).
